Comments/Information/Identification: I now have quite a set of these bowl bases, all found on the same stretch of coast – an animal set and a transport set. Some but not all, have the same strange mark on the reverse. Spongeware was rarely marked.

Spongeware (Probaby Scottish), possibly Methven pottery who were very successful at more intricate designs. No luck trying to find the makers mark. There is a very good book on Scottish Spongeware (Kelly, Henry E.; Kowalsky, Arnold A.; Kowalsky, Dorothy E.) That would cover it
